People use protection dogs for different things. Most common is for protection from home invasions or property protection. But they can also be trained for anti-car jacking, searching home perimeter, defending their handler in everyday environments and more.
A protection dog is a highly trained dog that is trained to protect their family from threats. These dogs are highly trained to protect you from intruders and home invasion threats. They can be trained to deter people from car-jacking or abductions. They are not at the same level as your regular pets at home but they will be trained to live inside and protect as needed.

Anyone that is interested in a protection must go through all the necessary steps first. The first step is a consultation. This is where you will come up to our building and meet with our trainer. They will ask questions and get a feel of what you want and see if you meet the guidelines we have in place for getting a protection dog. The cost of this is a non-refundable $150.
If you move onto the dog evaluation portion, you will then be asked to set up a time to get the dog evaluated if you are able to use your personal dog. The dog will be put through tests to see their temperament and also if the dog has what it takes to be a protection dog. The cost of this is a non-refundable $175.
For all adults in the household full-time, a background check is required before moving onto the next step. This is to protect not only ourselves but the animals as well. We cannot move onto the next step until all background checks come back and meet our requirements for moving on. If anyone in the household fails to submit a check, you will be disqualified from moving forward. Or, something on a record comes up that we feel isn't safe we will stop the process moving forward. This is $25 per

There is a very low possibility that you can use your dog for protection. The only breeds that we will take for that case are Shepherds, Malinois, Duchies, Rottweilers, and Cane Corsos. But we do not promise that they will be selected for that if you currently own one of those breeds. Your dog must be in overall good health conditions, good genetics, and have overall well-balanced social and environmental awareness. We will ask for a health background for your personal pet and or if you choose to go with a breeder, we will need to see all their paperwork for the dog and the breeding dogs. If they or you cannot provide any paperwork, your personal dog will be immediately disqualified and you will have to choose another dog. We are also looking at basic obedience and free from all aggression.
While it is not required in the state of Missouri to have insurance on your protection dog, it is highly recommend that you inquire about some pet insurance. There is a high liability with protection dogs so you want to cover yourself at all costs.
Given that a protection dog is a highly trained dog, we do require that you provide a background check on your dog. This must include where you got them, their health and genetic checks, and background on the breeder as well. If you cannot give any paperwork for the breeding dogs and or the current dog we will not move forward. We also will make sure that you can afford to give your dog a high performance dog food and not cheaply made food. Your protection needs to be in good physical health and feeding them cheap food will not result in that. If you cannot do that or make the switch to it, you will not be able to move forward. You will also need to pass a background check as well as all other adults in the house. Lastly, you will be required to re-certify your dog to ensure training is still up kept and commends are still there for the dog.
A well-rounded and well-trained protection dog is a minimum of one year with us. More advanced work is closer to two years.
At Stands Alone Canine, our training for protection dogs will be housed and trained at our facility 14381 Hwy 71, Savannah, MO 64485 for the full duration of training. NO EXCEPTIONS.
