We know that a service dog can benefit many people and allow people freedom to do day-to-day tasks not worrying about their medical disabilities causing them issues. We provide service dog training for people that have medical problems like diabetes, mobility, seizures, autism, and others. Please continue reading below to see how we do our service dogs and to get answers to questions before you call.
If you are interested in a service dog, we will start with a meeting at a scheduled time. Before you will be asked to fill out a form of interest . Once that form is completed we will set up a time for you to come to our building to meet. This time will just be inquiry only. There will be no talks about when training will start, dog breed, etc. If the application is for someone under the age of 18, we will ask the parent/guardian to fill out the form. Our team will then decide afterwards if you meet the criteria for our program. Just because you make an appointment doesn't mean that you will be approved. Either way, you will know whether you are approved to go to the next step. All applicants should be aware that at anytime during the process of our program, we can terminate the contract with the client.
If you have been approved by our team, we will send the application via email to fill out and to be returned to us. Once we receive that we will set up another appointment to go over the paperwork and talk about what happens next. The longer you take to get the packet completed, the longer the process takes to start. This point still doesn't mean that you can end up with a service dog but you have been approved to start the process. If at anytime we feel that things are not working out we will not go forward.
This second appointment is done in the applicant's home and with everyone in the household at a scheduled time. During this time we will talk with everyone present and make sure everyone is on the same page. We will answer any questions you may have during this time. This is at least a one-hour time meeting. Again, if you get to this stage, we can still deny your application for any reason we feel that we cannot work with you, or the dog wouldn't be safe in the environment.
Before searching for the service dog a despoit will be expected for the usual down payment and or purchase of the dog from a breeder. Disclaimer: we will most likely not use your pet dog as your service dog because we have high standards for our service dogs therefore, we usually like to get them as puppies. Once the amount is paid, we will then begin looking for the dog. Please note that this could take time and isn't always a simple process. We have different test we put the dogs through and if none of them meet them we will have to start over. If you cannot understand and respect this process, we will most likely deny moving forward with the applicant. We have certian breeds that we feel would be best for different disabilities therefore, we will stay away from dog breeds you don't feel comfortable with and or we feel won't do good in the environment but another would. You are able to pick either male or female and also the name you'd wish to give.
Once the dog is selected and the applicant has met with the dog, the dog stays with the Trainer in their home and begins puppy raising the dog. During this time, the applicant may schedule a time to meet and see the dog once a month or as needed. The trainer will begin working on potty training, name recognition, proper exposure, and more. If the applicant is needed during the training at any time, the trainer will reach out and arrange a time for them to meet. This process takes a minimum of 1 full year and no less. If the applicant does not understand this and at any time during the training process decides they no longer can afford or need the service dog, no refunds will be given and joining the service dog program will be denied in the future. Again, if the Trainer feels that the dog will not be safe in the environment or with the applicant, they can decide to break off the agreement for any reason they see fit with no refunds.
Once your dog has completed our service dog program, a delivery date will be schedule with the applicant. This will consist of spending the day with the client for one-full week helping them adjust to the dog and how the dog has been trained for their specific tasks. This step is important because you'll be expected to treat the dog like a working dog and not a pet always. Disclaimer: if we feel that even upon delivery the dog is not working out and or is not safe in the environment delivery of the dog can result in the dog being brought back to Stands Alone Canine Solutions, LLC with no refunds.
Please reach us at info@standsalonecanine.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Basic answer is it depends on what service type the dog will be helping. Most dogs start at $12,000 total.
No. The applicant will be fully responsible for paying for the animal themselves. We encourage fundraising or other means of donations like GoFundMe and other donation sites to help raise money. We will provide the applicant with the proper advertising to use.
If the team has approved your application, they will reach out to you either via email or letter letting you know you are ready to move onto the dog selection process. You will be required to pay a deposit of $2,000 for the dog. We will not begin looking for a dog or talk about anything else regarding the dog until that payment is completed.
No. We have high standards for our service dogs therefore we will not use your pet dog for our program. We use puppies for a reason and because of that we require them young, so we don't have to untrain bad habits formed. If you find a puppy and ask use to come with you to test it and it passes the testing, and we feel that it is a good fit we will approve it but if you get a puppy and don't allow us to test it and purchase it without us, we will not use that puppy still.
There will not be a approximate date from when you are approved until delivery. It could take time to find the right dog and also depending how soon the applicant gets the deposit to the team. After the dog is found and brought home, training will begin and that part takes a minimum of one year and can last more depending on the needs required for the dog.
Yes. Most cases we will allow for the applicant to see the dog and depending on the case it could be more than others. But that is up to the trainer to decide when the times comes.
